I'm toying about exchanging my Sony Trinitron 21" for a flatscreen. The Trinitron is great, even with it's limited 900 x 720 x 50Hz or so resolution I defy any flatscreen to actually match it's real-time performance (or I need new glasses). Fed by top quality Swedish Supra cables all over, it apparently has years of life left. So I'm very fussy about what will replace it. I'm not entirely happy with LCD, though they are improving they haven't addressed the real problems, pixel-lag and contrast. Plasma appeals, even the low-res 1024x720's beat the LCD's. True HD is still a way off, HD-ready seems to cover 90 percent of the market still and looks to be that way for years yet. BlueRay is a waste of time, few flatscreens can cope with mere HD! I'm waiting for the latest plasma tv's to arrive, but Oled seems the thing. However, it looks to be realistically 3-4 years in the future for we mere mortals who don't work for major banks supported by the taxpayer, with out billions in bonuses Oleds will be far too expensive until then. I don't like the current development with adding 'whistles and bells' to tv's, internet etc., better to spend the time and money to improve the product, the tv! And to look at the sound side of things, better amps to drive decent plug-in loudspeakers (I've a set of Canadian Mirage Omniphase speakers that sound really nice). However, let's see when the rest of the range of 2010 models arrive, only Samsung seem to have their new range out at the moment.

I want a big screen for watching soccer at 5 stadia in Botswana for the World Cup 2010. Rental or buy. I want to find out the cost and the logistics of having the big screen. I may have 2000 to 20,000customers per game.

"With Sony on the sidelines, it seemed like we were witnessing yet another false start for a technology that’s been intent on challenging existing TV standards like LCD and plasma for almost half a decade now."

Sony isn't on the sidelines at all, they are one of the first with a OLED tv released.

Philips and Panasonic are also heavily investing in OLED technology. This type of TV will find it's way to consumers sooner or later, I'm sure about this.
