LG is showing, among tons of other fantastic new displays, its new 31″ 3D OLED TV.

“For a peek at the future of Home Entertainment, LG will be displaying its revolutionary OLED TVs at IFA, including a new 31-inch 3D model with a depth of just 0.29 cm, the slimmest of any comparable set in the world. Dispensing with back-screen lighting, OLED TVs’ pixels generate their own light to produce an entirely new level of color, clarity and depth of blacks. Pencil-thin and exceptionally light, LG’s OLED TVs are an elegant addition to practically any environment and surface, as the ceiling-mounted sets in the LG OLED zone at IFA can attest. Demonstrating the extraordinary possibilities for 3D on an OLED TV, the 31-inch 3D model seduces viewers into a world with a level of detail that is a wonder to behold. ”

Also, check back here in a couple of days for photos from IFA 2010.

A couple of updates on two OLED TV models from LG.

First, according to LG USA, the LG 15EL9500 will not be released in the U.S. in the near future. I don’t have any more details than that at this time. The much rumored Summer 2010 launch is apparently off.

Secondly, LG will be showing a new 31″ OLED TV at IFA 2010 in Berlin, starting September 3. No details are available on this new model but once again, it’s probably just a demo model that won’t be available anytime soon at any cost. That’s not to say that it won’t be a stunning piece of display technology to drool over. You just can’t buy one yet.

Perhaps LG will have more news on its OLED plans at IFA 2010

The LG 15EL9500 OLED TV has been available in the UK for a few months now. However, the widely anticipated summer 2010 launch in North America seems to be slipping away. With the demise of the Sony XEL-1 and no replacements in sight, this leaves consumers in North America with no OLED TVs to choose from.

The LG USA and LG Canada sites have no information on the 15EL9500 unlike the UK site – LG OLED TV

I’ve contacted LG to see if I can get an update on the status of the 15EL9500. Please check back in a couple of weeks to see what’s up.

Yes, 2016. A long time to wait for a decent sized OLED TV at a reasonable price.

This forecast is according to Won Kim, LG Display’s OLED sales and marketing VP speaking at FPD International 2009, in Yokohama City, Japan.

LG is still planning to release their 15 inch OLED TV by the end of 2009. That’s fairly exciting as there isn’t much of 2009 left.

LG Display plans to release 20-in and larger OLED TVs in 2010, 30-in and larger OLED TVs in 2011 and 40-in and larger panels in 2012.

“Forty-inch and larger OLED panels will be fairly expensive in 2012, but they will be available in the market,” Kim said.

Be sure to check out the great article at TechOn on LG OLED TV. I’m also looking forward to doing an LG OLED TV review by the end of the year.

OLED TV was not exactly taking center stage at the OLEDs World Summit 2009 in San Francisco.

The 11th annual event started yesterday and winds up today.

Most of the focus is on smaller OLED displays and OLED lighting however. FOr a look at the agenda, click here.

Cnet’s Erica Ogg was there and provided the following:

“Though LG’s eye-popping OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display wowed audiences in Berlin last month, it’s best not to get too excited. There’s not going to be more where that came from, at least for a while.

The industry is still at least three years away from churning out standard-size televisions of 32 inches or larger at something approaching acceptable prices. And though Sony grabbed all the attention in early 2008 with its $2,500 11-inch OLED, it’s faded into the background when it comes to nudging the technology forward. Initially promising to follow up with 21-inch and 27-inch models, Sony’s deferred those plans while battling bigger problems with its TV business.

With Sony on the sidelines, it seemed like we were witnessing yet another false start for a technology that’s been intent on challenging existing TV standards like LCD and plasma for almost half a decade now.

Beset by the standard issues that come with bringing a new technology into the mainstream, like the exorbitantly high cost of development, OLED TVs might be on the verge of shifting out of neutral as new standard bearers for the technology emerge. The ones to watch now are Samsung and LG Electronics, which have each signaled that they’re ready to make larger investments in OLED technology for TVs.”

In the last week or so there has been OLED TV news from both Sony and LG. Sony’s news is not good while LG’s is very good.

Sony announced that they are putting off introducing a larger OLED TV than the current XEL-1. A 27″ model was expected soon from Sony but with the current econnomic situation and losses at Sony, it may take a while longer.

On the other hand, the LG OLED TV news is much better. A 15″ OLED TV will be out shortly.

“LG, the world’s second-biggest TV brand, said in a statement that it would be unveiling a 15-inch AM-OLED TV at the IFA 2009 consumer electric show in Berlin in September.

The TV set would be commercialized in Korea in November and offered overseas next year, it said.

Research firm DisplaySearch expects the market for OLED TV to reach 2.33 million units in 2013 compared with estimated 320,000 units in 2011, according to data provided by LG.

“We are planning to unveil a 40-inch grade (OLED) product in a not too distant future,” LG quoted an executive as saying.”
